In continuation of my despatch No.572 of 9th

1 September, 1937, I have the honour to enclose a report

on the typhoon of September 1st-2nd which has been prepared from reports received from various sources.

2. In forwarding this report I wish to place on record my appreciation of the splendid manner in which the members of the Police and Fire Brigade carried out their duties, and in particular of the action of Chief Preventive Officer 7. J. Buller and

a party of police and revenue officers who in the face of great danger and difficulty made their way to the sea front, at that time being washed by heavy seas, and rescued members of the crew of the S.S. An Lee, and a number of persons who had been cut off on various wharves.
